| Educational grant or scholarship from the TATA group | ||||||
| The first Tata Trust, the J.N. Tata Endowment for Higher Education of Indians, was set up in 1892. Subsequently, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust was established by Sir Dorab Tata, the elder son of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata in 1932. The wealth that he turned over to the Trust comprised his substantial share holdings in Tata Sons, Indian Hotels and allied companies, his landed properties and 21 pieces of jewellery left by his wife, estimated then to be of the value of Rs 10 million. Now known as the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Allied Trusts, the entity comprises the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Jamsetji Tata Trust, the R.D. Tata Trust, the J.R.D. Tata Trust, the Tata Education Trust, the Tata Social Welfare Trust, the J.R.D. and Thelma J. Tata Trust, the J.N. Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians, the Lady Tata Memorial Trust and the Lady Meherbai D. Tata Education Trust. While most of these trusts have specific mandates, the underlying principle is to empower the financially weak and socially backward sections of society. The following are some of the scholarships provided by the trusts specifically for the purpose of overseas education. |

| Sir Ratan Tata Trust | Travel grants are provided to the students proceeding for post-graduate and doctoral studies and for professionals proceeding for their mid-career programmes. | The grant to students consists of only a partial international airfare from India to the university / organisation abroad. | For the fall session, the last date for applying to the Trusts is May 31 every year. Students proceeding abroad for the spring session are requested to contact the Trusts three / four months prior to their departure, after finalising the university. |

| Lady Meherbai D. Tata Education Trust Scholarships | The Lady Meherbai D. Tata Education Trust awards scholarships to Indian women graduates of recognized Indian universities to pursue higher education abroad in the fields of social science, social work, education, Empowerment of women, gender studies, child health, health policy, public health, rural development or development studies. | Depends on individual candidate | Indian women graduates from a recognised Indian University who have consistent academic record. | JN Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians | The J. N. Tata Endowment awards a one-time loan-scholarship only at the beginning of the course to Indian nationals for full time Postgraduate/Ph.D./Postdoctoral studies abroad. The final selection of scholars for the award of the loan scholarship is based on the following criteria: (1) Performance at the interview; (2) Results at the final examinations; and (3) Evidence of admission to a reputed University. |
The amount awarded as the loan-scholarship ranges between Rs.1,50,000/- and Rs.6,00,000/-. The selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship and travel assistance from allied Trusts for a maximum amount of Rs.10 lakh and the travel grant can be a maximum of Rs.50,000/-. | Applicants should be Indian nationals,graduates of a recognised Indian University, with a consistently good academic record and other achievements to their credit. Mid-career professionals up to the age of 45, with a good academic record and experience in their fields who wish to go overseas for further research, specialisation or training may also apply. |

Repayment of the loan begins from the time the scholar starts earning or by the end of the fourth year from the availment of the loan, whichever is earlier. Repayment of the loan must be completed by the end of the seventh year from the date of availing of the loan. |
| Tata Education and Development Trust | A $25 million endowment has been established that will allow Cornell to provide financial aid to undergraduate students from India. The Tata Scholarship Fund will support approximately 20 scholars at any given time |
Depends on individual candidate | To receive the undergraduate scholarship, a recipient must: 1. be a citizen of India and have attended secondary school in India; 2. be offered admission to Cornell as an undergraduate student; 3. be eligible for need-based financial aid. Preference will be given to qualified students accepted to the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning; the College of Engineering; the Applied Economics and Management major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; and majors across colleges in the biological sciences, physical sciences, and other “hard” sciences, as well as the social sciences. |
